Sunday 24th July 2012 - Drive to Glen Innes

We left Gunnedah just after 9.30 heading towards Tamworth and onto Glen Innes. The previous day we had seen a sign to the Keepit Dam so decided to drive and have a look, it was only a 285 km drive to Glen Innes and we had all day so thought a bit of scenery would be good.

The dam was amazing, just incredible to see this huge expanse of water in the middle of nowhere and so serene, just magical.

From the dam we decided to go via Manilla, Barraba, Bingara, Warialda, this was taking in some of the places that Chris called into in his "Reping" days, so he had a lot to look back on and to remember. We stopped in Barraba for scones with jam and cream and had an interesting chat with a lady who had travelled quite a bit and was a bit of a character.

The countryside is just magnificent, such a good time of year to be out here, even thpugh it is very cold at time.

We saw a sign to the Copeton Dam, so after checking out the route in the GPS we headed off, through cattle country and had to stop a few times to let the cattle have right of way.

Came to another great dam structure which holds 3 times the colume of water in Sydney Harbour, this was just amazing, the dM is being upgraded with another spillway being built, just incredible to see this huge building site.

From the dam we drove to Inverell, another once small town that Chris used to go to to call on pharmacists, that has now grown so much. Due to our turn off to Copeton Dam we missed Warialda, it was well worth the trip to Copeton Dam though.

We arrived at Glen In es ablut 4:30, checked in and got ourselves settled and then walked to the Services Club for dinner. Back to homepage
