Our first game of golf for June. South Lakes looked to be a flat course, there was little wind, a little chilly but a nice day overall when we started. The weather continued to be good, with the sun coming out and the day warming up.
No problem getting on course and we talked to the Pro (Roger Stephens) about playing in the comp on Saturday, otherwise we wouldn't get on until the afternoon.
I had a good start and played a very nice front 9 having 47 strokes. Chris was in trouble from the start and just couldn't seem to get going with his swing. He is changing things a little and this always makes you worse for a couple of days.
My back nine was not quite so good, I missed a few putts, but I was pretty happy with my score.
Chris still struggled on the back 9 and I think he was pretty happy to finish.
We booked in for the comp tomorrow at 11:45am, hopefully it will be another nice day.
Scores for today were:
Chris front 9 = 52, back 9 = 61 for a total of 113, less his 31 handicap = 82, with 24 stableford points.
For me front 9 = 47, back 9 = 53 for a total of 100 less my 31 handicap = 69, with 39 stableford points.
I took some photos today using the camera that Em gave me for Mother's Day so have to wait to get these developed before I can load them.
After packing up our clubs we headed to Goolwa for something to eat and a walk around the wharf, looking at an old paddlesteamer. Then we took another drive to Hindmarsh Island to find the Murray Mouth.
It was a nice afternoon for a drive, we found the monument where Charles Sturt first saw the Mouth of the Murray - this is where the river flows into the ocean. For me it is a little difficult to see as the river flows into Lake Alexandrina which then meets the ocean. I would like to see where the river meets the Lake but I think we would have to back track a bit to find that. Perhaps another trip. Chris says we now need to see where the Murray starts - so we might have to have a trip to the Snowy Mountains in the near future.
